Model UN Update - 1/13/10

Today I had a meeting after school for Model United Nations. Mr. Fetzer needed time today to review the future plans for the MUN team. He begged people to get their position papers and money in. I've turned in my position paper already and my committee is all set, but I still have $20 to get in for money because my father forgot to add it to the check.

Besides this, Mr. Fetzer went over rules and regulations for the hotels and while we are in the UN building. I know that I have to be courteous and respectful during my stay in New York. He also talked about the guidelines for debate and what exactly we should expect when we arrived. Being new to the MUN team, I'm completely unaware of what the trip will be like. I'm very excited for the opportunity to exercise my knowledge of international relations and debate. I will have to read the bylines for how exactly the meetings work and then do research on current issues. I feel very confident in my knowledge of Macedonia's position on odious debt, but I know very little beyond that. I am aware that my dearth of knowledge could be a weakness and that I really should pay more attention to the news and delve a little deeper into the topics that will be brought up at the MUN convention. Anyways, I can't wait for this experience and I think it will be great in shaping my knowledge on international relations and boosting my confidence in how well I know important world issues. I hope that this will be great preparation for what I want to do in college and later on in life!
